John Dockerty (1897-1983) had a shopfront at 562 E. Main Street in Little Falls from 1932 until he moved his business to 157 Burwell Street in 1965. He offered a __ shop along with his floral business with a complete line of fish food and aquariums.

Lyndon Waldo Lyon (1904-1999) of Dolgeville, was a horticulturist whose cross-breeding, or hybridization, established him as the world's most important breeder of __ violets.
Theodore Schesch (1853-1936) came to Ilion to work for the Remington's but eventually would leave to begin his own florist shop at 132 E. Main St. leaving it to his son Albert (1896-1969) to carry on. The well known "Schesch The Florist" was the __ running shop in the county, starting in 1919 up to the 1990s (at least).
One of the first greenhouses to use __-ponics in central New York was in Newport in 1969 by Maurice D. Monteau (1896-1979) who had a company in Middleville called Agroponics, Inc. They shipped bedding plants to select outlets of Sears & Roebuck, Loblaws, P&C, and Agway.

In the 1960s, Hoke's Flowers was open at 101 W. Main Street in Ilion (now a service station). It was operated by Leslie Hoke (1919-1970) and his wife Betty Kittle (1921-2000). They took it over from her parents Marvin and M. Lois Kittle when they retired in 1951. In 1970 they were Ilion girl's __ league team champions.
